Minnesota’s Solar Milestone Shines Through Collaboration and Community

From our home state of Minnesota comes a utility-scale solar energy project impactful in more ways than the power it will produce. At a million-plus solar panels, the Sherco Solar project, located near Becker, Minnesota, represents the largest solar energy installation to date in the Upper Midwest. Built on a foundation of trust, teamwork and community connection, this remarkable renewable energy initiative is a shining example of how the work we do today is shaping a cleaner tomorrow for our state and our nation. 

Cultivating Client Relationships 

 The Sherco Solar project kicked off a new collaboration between Blattner and Xcel Energy. Together, we’ve built a relationship based on mutual trust, open communication and shared goals.  

One of Xcel Energy’s major goals is its commitment to achieving 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050, making Xcel Energy one of the first major U.S. utilities to set such an ambitious goal for clean energy. This includes plans to retire all coal plants by 2030 and significantly increase Xcel Energy’s investment in wind and solar power, including large-scale solar projects like Sherco Solar.    

Through meticulous planning and a collaborative problem-solving approach between Blattner and Xcel Energy, the project has aligned seamlessly with both organizations’ ambitions to lead the renewable energy transition. The completion of Phase I of the multi-phase project was celebrated this fall and future phases will follow for the next several years. The collaboration on Sherco sets a strong precedent for potential future renewable energy projects together.
