Western Spirit Wind
1,050 Megawatts.
Blattner Energy
Setting The Standard For Clean Energy In The Southwest.
This Blattner Energy project is one of the largest wind farms ever constructed in the United States is in New Mexico. Western Spirit Wind included four wind energy project sites — Red Cloud, Duran Mesa, Clines Corners and Tecolote. The 1,050-megawatt Blattner-built project has the most wind power ever constructed as a single phase in North America. Blattner installed a total of 377 GE wind turbines that vary from 2.3 to 2.8 megawatts in size. At the peak of construction, more than 1,500 people worked on Western Spirit Wind. Around 35 full-time permanent workers still operate and maintain the wind energy site. Blattner worked with Pattern Energy and EC Source to host job fairs in New Mexico to hire local talent. The project was completed in December 2021.
Western Spirit Wind’s annual electricity production is equal to the annual energy needs of more than 900,000 people. The annual production that the site produces will help conserve more than two billion gallons of water, the annual water usage of 64,000 Americans. It’s also helping avoid almost four million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is the equivalent of removing 845,000 cars off the road every year.
